Paddy Murphy

Paddy is a specialist sports lawyer and leads the Sports Law practice in Ogier's Irish office. He advises sports national governing bodies, clubs and businesses in the sports industry on contentious and non-contentious issues.

Background and experience

Paddy has significant experience of advising clients in the sports industry. His experience includes advocating before sports arbitration tribunals, acting in defending players at disciplinary hearings, acting as independent legal assessor in disciplinary hearings, drafting constitutions and complaint and disciplinary policies for Sports National Governing bodies, advising on child protection matters within sport, advising on selection policies for major international competition and drafting other commercial agreements.

Paddy also has substantial experience in commercial litigation, particularly in Commercial Court proceedings, including acting for clients in the construction, financial regulation and telecoms industry. He has also advised in bringing and defending judicial reviews, including a Supreme Court appeal to judicial review proceedings.

Prior to joining Ogier, Paddy was a senior associate in the commercial dispute resolution team of a leading Irish corporate law firm.

Paddy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Limerick and a Master in Law from University College Dublin. He is qualified as a solicitor in Dublin and speaks English and Irish. Paddy is also registered on the Irish Language Register to practice as a solicitor through Irish.

Paddy completed the Diploma in Sports Law in the Law Society in 2019 and the Diploma in Construction Law in the Law Society in 2022.
